From the inner city streets of Elizabeth, NJ, this four-piece
powerhouse incorporates a seamless blend of metal and hip-hop,
unlike any of the generic copycats out there today. E.town Concrete
was officially formed in late 1995, but the bands roots go back
much farther than that. Anthony, David, Teddy and Eric have been
playing together in one form or another since they were in grade
school. Each member's respective instrument may have varied
throughout the years, but that never really made a difference. What
was most important then is still what is most important today - the
music. Now, I know what you're thinking, Oh, just another
rap-core band... but calling E.town just another rap-core band is
like calling Bob Dylan just another folk singer . After a few listens
through some of their songs you just might understand. Even if you
don't get it at first, E.town is the voice of today's generation. They
are the soundtrack for the school shootings. With all of them barely
removed from high school themselves, they ARE our children. And
if you could come to a show and see the kids screaming every word
back at the band maybe you would understand. If you could hear the
story of a young man who's best friend played an E.town Concrete
song at his funeral maybe you would understand. If you could read the
letter of a 15 year old girl who was touched so deeply by their music
that it helped her kick cocaine, maybe you would understand. I don't
know how many times people have told me that one of our songs has
brought them to tears because it hits so close to home. I want to make
music that makes a difference, Anthony explains, If we play what's in
our hearts, then we won't go wrong. Presently, E.town Concrete's
sophomore effort, The Second Coming is positioning the band to
make big waves in 2000. This is the record E.town fans have been
anticipating since the release of their raw and gritty debut Time 2 Shine
in 1997, and it looks like it was well worth the wait. The Second Coming
is eleven tracks that take the listener on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Whether it's the brutal metal-core tracks of Soldier and Pacemaker , the
rock/rap sounds of Dirty Jer-Z or the straight up hip-hop of Guaranteed ,
this album has something for everyone. I think it's important to be somewhat
unpredictable, that's what makes us the band we are. Too many bands are
just a sum of their influences. We bring more to the table, says vocalist
Anthony Martini.
