Dallas’ Flickerstick not only prove the adage that all things are bigger
in Texas true, they rip it apart and stamp their own potent definition of
“massive” all over it. From the first explosive guitar chord to the final
shattering drum crash, these rock mavericks seem to breathe their
music as though they would die tomorrow without it.

Passionate and unapologetic, the quintet of rockers have been astonishing
audiences with their invigorating brand of self-proclaimed “psychedelic pop”
since the summer of 1997. Singer, Brandin Lea and guitarist Cory Kreig
say the band was forged out of their desire to create artistic and innovative
music reminiscent of early Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd with an added
pop flare. “We were into a lot of the same music. We wanted to create
music that had a new taste but with old flavor,” says Lea.

Bristling with attitude and armed with a slew of blistering-but-beautiful songs,
Flickerstick took their act to the stage and immediately stunned cowboys
and cowgirls alike with their audacious and intense live production. A
childhood filled with Broadway tunes, dancing and musical theater has
equipped brothers Brandin and Fletcher Lea with an enormous stage
presence that blows the mind of anyone around who remotely has one.

As excitement of the careening thrill ride known as THE Flickerstick show
continued to spread, the masses united and proclaimed Flickerstick “Best
Rock Band” two years in a row. Says Kreig, “From day one, it’s always
been about the shows. We’ve never had anyone backing us financially.
The shows were all we’ve ever had.”

Frontman Lea does nothing short of command the audiences’ attention
with his writhing body and charismatic swagger. “Music is our passion,
so of course our live show is going to be intense and brutally emotional,”
says guitarist Rex “El Dangeroso” Ewing.

With the release of their dazzling debut album, Welcoming Home the
Astronauts, the band has forced the rest of the world to stand up and take
notice. The fans have thronged again and voted the record “Album of the
Year.” VH1 was one of the first to recognize the intangible energy the
band possesses. Along with 5,000 other hopefuls, Flickerstick submitted
its CD to VH1 for a new series called “Bands on the Run.” After several
auditions and many drunken nights forever lost to their memories, the band
was chosen as one of the four to star on the new series. With cameras
following every move, the band embarked on two intense months of touring.
“We feel blessed to have gotten this opportunity. It’s such a fantastic way
to get our music out there. There’s definitely going to be some backlash
from people who don’t like us because we are on TV, but in the end, all that
matters is that we are creating our music, and we are sharing it with people,
” says Lea.

Like the true Texans they are, Flickerstick’s exuberance for life and verve for
music are larger-than-life and awe-inspiring . The band is charging full-speed
into their first national tour, and with a brilliant CD to promote, a VH1 series
under their belt, and a fervent passion for their music, Flickerstick is poised for
phenomenal success.
