C: power x320xx strum x32010
C6: power x322xx strum x32210

I know that Queensryche loves barre chords, but I play it
with open chords since the song needs space. Long drawn out open
chords are mighty powerful in creating that 'dreamy, spatial'
feeling.

Lyrics/Arrangement:

Opening: Rhy Fig 1 twice | Rhy fig 2 | Rhy fig 2a |

Rhy Fig 1 twice
Hush now, don't you cry,

Rhy Fig 2 Rhy Fig 2a
wipe away the teardrop from your eye.

Rhy Fig 1a twice
You're lying safe in bed,

Rhy Fig 2b twice
it was all a bad dream spinning in your head.

Rhy Fig 3 twice
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain,

Rhy Fig 4 twice
Of someone close to you leaving the game
(of life).

Rhy Fig 3 twice Rhy Fig 4
So here it is, another chance, wide awake you face the day.

&&
The dream is over, or has it just begun....?

Rhy Fig 5 twice | Rhy Fig 2c twice

Rhy Fig 5 twice
There's a place I like to hide,
If you open your mind for me,

Rhy Fig 2c twice
a doorway that I run through in the night.
you won't rely on open eyes to see.

Rhy Fig 5 twice
Relax child, you were there,
The walls you built within

Rhy Fig 2c twice
but only didn't realise that you were scared.
come tumbling down and a new world will begin.

Rhy Fig 3 twice
It's a place where you will learn
Living twice at once you learn,

Rhy Fig 4 twice
to face your fears, retrace the years,
you're safe from pain in the dream domain,

and ride the whims of your mind.
a soul set free to fly.

Rhy Fig 3 twice
Commanding in another world,
A round trip journey in your head,

Rhy Fig 4 twice
suddenly you hear and see this magic new dimension....
master of illusion, can you realise your dream's alive

2nd time:
(you can be the guide, but)

D C6
I.................will be watching over you

D C6
I.................am gonna help to see you through

D C6
I.................will protect you in the night

D C6 $$$ 2nd time &&&
I.................am smiling next to you, in silent lucidity....

Rhy Fig 1b twice

Rhy Fig 6 twice
(Begin solo)| Rhy Fig 7 twice |
Rhy Fig 6 twice | Rhy Fig 7 twice |
(rhythm section rest)

Voice: Visualise your dream,
Record it in the present tense,
Put it into a permanent form,
If you persist in all efforts,
You can achieve a dream come true...
...a dream come true...
...a dream come true...

(Go to 2nd verse)

Notes:
EXTRA LITTLE NOTES: Play an E at the 5th fret of the second
string right before Your mind tricked you to feel the pain.
After or has it just begun...? hammer an E from the open D
string followed by an open G string before entering Rhy Fig 5.

CHORUS: depending on my mood, I either play whole note power
chords or strum
(eighth notes) the chords. Depending on what
sounds good at the time, I play either a C or a C6 chord.
Technically, it's supposed to be a C6 chord
(my two versions o'
tab confirm this), but some days it just doesn't sound right.

PLAYING: Chris DeGarmo plays a spanish, nylon 6-string acoustic
for the rhythm part. I'm pretty sure a normal 6-string and a 12-
string join in along the way. As the the song progresses, I
think a 6-string electric
(clean) comes in. Another electric
comes in for the solo
(see below). I always play this song with
a steel 6-string and it sounds fine. If you play with steel
strings play without a pick: it sounds better IMHO. Any nylon
string players probably want to follow DeGarmo's part with a
pick. This info is just IMHO, not written in stone.

SOLO: Playing the heavily repeated part of the solo on acoustic
is kinda tough
(which is what I always play the entire song
with). It never really sounds right. I freelance that part just
about every time I play it. If you have an electric with a
tremolo bar
(sp) and all the effects
(I think Chris DeGarmo likes
chorus, octave, and overdrive, but don't hold me to that), you
can make it sound perfect.

STRING ARRANGEMENT: I have no idea what the string arrangement is

(done by Michael Kamen of _Robin Hood_, etc, etc fame), nor do I
even have a clue. I would like to play them on my 'board, so if
anybody knows it, I would be glad if they sent it my way.

Isn't this played as:

---7-----7-----5-----5-----5|
-----0-----0-----0-----0----|
-0-----0-----0-----0-----0--|
----------------------------|
----------------------------|
----------------------------|

and similarly for Rhy.Fig.1a. This is the way I play it and seems a little
easier.
